how I want to live

it’s Leisurama for me
but what I keep wondering is this: is there anything to love about McMansions? will they seem endearingly, adorably quirky fifty or sixty years from now, anachronistic and emblematic of a time when Americans still felt hopeful about their financial and environmental futures?

One can still be hopeful about the future without McMansions! Throw in a little chance and the future is what we collectively make it to be. So lets make it better.

Hi Michael - to me, McMansions are hideous, but also represent a certain kind of optimism - they say that resources are unlimited, money is unlimited, space is unlimited. Either that or they’re the worst kind of conspicuous consumption. Maybe both. I just keep thinking of small families in huge empty houses, wondering how they feel about their space - especially when the small families split up, or lose their jobs. What’s going to happen to these huge houses in a recession?
