back in Saipan; I love my job, too
April 10th, 2007
I was just about to write something about the delight of Singapore dog cafes and the writing of articles about Singapore dog cafes, along with the writing of books, the writing of other travel articles, and how exciting India is, when these two blonde Mormon missionaries sat down next to me at the cafe where I’m working on an article about Singapore dog cafes.
this is the dog cafe I was writing about

it’s called Dogoholics
and it’s great
They started talking about what it’s like being 20, living on a sin-filled tropical island, and spending all day walking from door to door trying to get people living on the sin-filled tropical island to accept your particular brand of Christianity. They said it’s great. They really love their jobs. They said they’ve only had the door slammed on them once and for the most part people are really interested in talking to them, this being an extremely Christian sin-filled island and all. Then they noted that there seem to be an awful lot of lawyers on Saipan.
“It’s a litigious place,” I said, which they seemed to accept.
They are on their day off today - the day when they get to do their laundry and not go door to door trying to get people to accept their particular brand of Christianity - and they still made a little attempt with me to start up a conversation about who goes to heaven and who DOESN’T, but when I told them that I like being Jewish they pretty much left it at that, just drank their pink smoothies, smoothed their white shirts, and went on their rather serious but quite satisfying ways.
